Tortuous Road

South Tortuous Road

The South Tortuous Road is a 3.9 mile asphalt roadway, 24 feet wide with a 2 foot apron on each side. All of the rough events are in the right lane. Three special events are included in the road surface: a series of suspension lifts, uni-body twists, and a series of bumps simulating a series of 50 consecutive railroad track crossings.

Suspension, body, drive train, brake, low fuel drivability, and oil starvation test are typical of the tests conducted on South Tortuous Road.

North Tortuous Road

The North Tortuous Road is a 0.9 mile asphalt and concrete roadway, 20 feet wide with special events in the right lane and a smooth left lane. It consists of three curves and five short hills with varying degrees of breakover differences providing a roller coaster effect.

The North Tortuous Road is used for endurance testing and special automatic and manual transmission tests.
